Summer Term Learning Update

Welcome back to Nursery! We are so excited to begin the new term on Wednesday, 23rd April, and we have lots of wonderful things planned.

This half-term, our topic will be Growing.

Below is an overview of some of the key areas we’ll be exploring:

Phonics

In Phonics this half-term, we will be focusing on Voice Sounds and beginning to learn about Oral Blending and Segmenting. These activities help children distinguish between different sounds as they develop their phonetic awareness.

I will be sending home a parent guide in your child's reading record with more information to support you at home.

Maths

This term in Maths, we will continue to develop our understanding of number. We will be playing number games, learning to count accurately, singing number songs, and practising subitising (recognising quantities without counting).

PE

In PE, we will be learning to get dressed and undressed independently for our sessions. It is important that your child has a PE kit in school. Please refer to the Tapestry post for further details.

PE will take place every other Monday, starting on Monday 28th April.

Dough Disco

As part of our Physical Development learning, the children will take part in a fun activity called ‘Dough Disco’. Each child has their own piece of play dough, and we practise moving it in different ways to strengthen finger muscles—perfect for early writing skills!

Woodlands

On Fridays, we will be enjoying our Woodlands sessions—outdoor learning adventures! Please make sure your child brings:

  • Wellington boots

  • A waterproof coat

We have a limited number of puddle suits available, but you’re welcome to send in your own for your child to use.

What Your Child Needs at Nursery

  • A change of clothes

  • Wellington boots

  • A water bottle

  • A coat

  • A lunch box (if your child is staying for Lunch Club)

If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to a member of staff at the door.

We cannot wait to get started!

Best wishes,
Mrs Parsons
