Pointillist Landscapes
In Art, the children have been exploring pointillist pioneer, Georges Seurat.
We were very lucky to have an artist come in and carry out a water colour workshop with Year 5. Sharon Goodliffe who specialises in local landscapes came in and was initially interviewed by the children. They found she had other talents as well as painting, including crotchet, knitting, making lace, quilting, embroidery. She also loved to read and be outdoors, which is where she gets her inspiration. She explained that like many children, she liked to move and found it tricky to stay still. These hobbies helped her.
This was then followed up with a water colour workshop, a medium that requires a balance of using 'enough but not too much' water. The children persevered and demonstrated optimism and resilience during this workshop. We are very proud of the children's accomplishments. We were particularly impressed with the children's politeness and gratitude that they showed towards our visitor which made them feel very welcome.
Afterwards, the children combined their inspirations to create a pointillist landscape. Below are some photos of their art pieces. We like how they all look unique but are linked by their inspiration and techniques. Sharon came back to visit us and the children had the opportunity to explain their work to her and gain advice for small tweaks to improve their work further.
