PE and Sport Premium
As part of a current government initiative, the school will receive Sports Premium funding annually. At Galley Hill Primary School we have chosen to focus upon the development of high quality teaching, learning and experiences for each and every child. We have invested part of our funding towards providing every child with high quality coaching within their PE lessons. Galley Hill are ensuring that the premium budget will be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
At Galley Hill we aim to ensure that we use the premium to:
- Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that our school already offers
- Make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
- Hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers and all classes.
- Provide existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
- Introduce new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
- Support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
- Run sport competitions
- Increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
- Run sports activities with other schools
We believe that this will continue to enable both staff and children to learn alongside one another. Sport coaching has been provided in order to teach an extensive range of skills through sports including cricket, football, tennis and netball. This coaching has enabled us to build upon the strong links that we strive to maintain with external clubs and groups.
One of our main links to external sporting opportunities is through our annual subscription in partnership with the Dacorum School Sports network. This membership also allows us, to have a county representative Clare McCawley, who connects us to all events taking place around Hertfordshire which has enabled our students to compete alongside schools from across the area. These events are aimed at all different year groups across the school thus meaning that the children get to take part in competitive sporting activities like speed stacking, tri golf, cross country and many more throughout the year. It has and continues to provide both staff and pupils with a wealth of developmental opportunities.
In addition to this, we have used the funding to provide the equipment needed for children to train and engage actively in a range of sport based activities. These resources can now also be used for a range of exciting sporting after school and lunchtime clubs for children of all ages.
