Message from Mrs Birch

THANK YOU to all parents who attended parent consultations this week. We really appreciate your commitment to your child’s learning and progress and hope that you found the meetings useful. Thank you also to all who made comments for the governors. It is always a pleasure to read all of the positives but also gives us a chance to review feedback and make improvements to our school. We will review all of the comments over the coming weeks and see if there are any changes we can make.

We understand that following changes put in place by Juniper (who run our website) there were some glitches whereby appointments were not confirmed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and will be looking at eradicating any further problems ahead of the next round of consultations.

British Science Week 2025

This week, we have been involved in activities relating to British Science Week and this included a whole school Science afternoon on Monday. All of the children took place in activities on the theme ‘Change and Adapt’. We clearly have very many budding young scientists and I really hope they enjoyed telling you all about their learning. Many thanks to Mrs Pritchett and Miss Lewis who organised this event on behalf of the school.

Sensory Support

As many of you will know, this year we have been working on a project called Partnership in Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS). As one aspect of this project, we have been looking at developing strategies to support children’s sensory needs and this has included some fascinating training. We now wish to further develop the sensory resources available to all children in every classroom. If any parents work for or know of companies that have stress balls or similar that they give away as part of their marketing who may wish to donate some to the school, we would be very grateful to receive them.

Our message continues to be that children should not bring in their own sensory toys from home as these can get lost and cause upset and arguments. Thank you for your support with this.

Sharing Assembly

Many thanks to Team Crystal for a fantastic sharing assembly on Thursday. Our next sharing assembly will be presented by Team Sapphire on Thursday (20th March) at 9am.

Parent Forum - Friday 21st March 

As we strive to become an anti-racist school, we would like to hear the views of our parents from minoritised ethnic groups, and parents of children from minoritised ethnic groups. We will be holding a parent forum for these parents, run by Mrs Reynolds and Miss Ambrose, on Friday 21st March at 9am. This is an opportunity for you to talk with other parents and discuss your children's experiences at Galley Hill in a comfortable and relaxed environment, with refreshments! If you would like to attend please let the office know. We really do want to hear from you so that we can ensure we are doing everything we can to become a truly anti-racist school.

SEND Information 

What is the Hertfordshire Shining Communication Award (HSCA)?

HSCA is a tool for schools to use to support and improve the outcomes for those children presenting with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). The aim of the tool is to support settings to identify their strengths and areas of development in terms of the support provided for children with SLCN. Mrs Larner is working closely with NHS Speech Therapists on this project to raise the profile of speech, language and communication needs across the school.
