Reading: Please continue to encourage your child(ren) to read for pleasure. They should record the reading they do both independently and with an adult in their reading record books. They should do this at least 3 times over a week.
We encourage parents to talk with their child(ren) about the books they have read. Can they summarise what they have read? Can they predict the next event in the book? Can they identify and give reasons for why a character is experiencing certain emotions?
Maths: Please continue to practise times tables either on paper or using games online. We will now be encouraging the children to use Times Table Rockstars for their homework. Quick recall of the times tables is an essential skill that is used in a wide range of maths activities. See the links below:
Spelling: This half term we are going to be asking the children to learn the words from the statutory 5/6 word list. All of the purple mash activities will link to this. In school we will be learning other spelling rules but will do a quick quiz on those that they have learnt at home also. It can be helpful to discuss the meanings of these words or use a dictionary to find the meanings.
This weeks Purple Mash words are: bargain bruise category cemetery committee communicate community competition conscience conscious controversy convenience correspond
This week's spelling focus in school will be: words ending in -tial and -cial.
Here is a link to some games for our in school focus if your child would like more practise.
