We will find out about Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year and how it is celebrated around the world. We will look at a globe and a world map to find where China is located.
We will listen to and talk about the Chinese New Year Story. We will talk about our favourite part of the story and explain why we like it. We will have a go at retelling the story.
We will learn that all the animals in the Chinese New Year story have things they are good at, such as the dragon who is kind and the ox who is strong. We will talk about things we are good at.
We will learn to say ‘Happy New Year’ to each other in Chinese.
We will work together to explore music making and create dragon dance performances.
We will learn how to say, read and write the sounds w and x & practise blending these sounds to read simple words: wig, wet, wok, fox, box, mix.
We will practise correct letter formation: in the air, in sand, foam and on the board/paper.
We will have a go at writing words/captions/sentences by writing messages to go inside fortune cookies and to record facts about Chinese New Year.
Tricky Words - please help your child to practise the words: I, no, go, to, the, we, me, be, he, she.
These are words that cannot be sounded out.
In Maths we will learn about ordinal numbers: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. We will use The animals race story to help us with learning.
