Activities for Friday
English
To present in a clear way |
I want you to think about what makes a good performance. You need to think about the tone of your voice, the speed you speak in, the emotion in your voice, where you pause. Have a watch of this performance and see if it gives you any tips. |
You are going to read through and practise performing your speech.
When you finish I want you to record it and watch it back. What went well? If there anything you’d like to improve? If you can improve it, why not have another go.
Once you have a finalised video you’re happy with why not send it to us – we’d love to see the final product! |
Spelling
Choose 10 words from the 3/4 word list and use them in a sentence. If you want to do a little extra you might want to do some rainbow writing, pyramid spelling, an acrostic poem or a nonsense story.
Reading
For your reading today we would like you to create a character that you would love to read about in a story. You need to think about their physical appearance and the way they would act and respond to things.
Maths
Today we are looking at simple reflection. Continue working through your home learning booklet and I will be uploading additional extensions each day for you to have a go at.

For symmetry you can look at the PowerPoint and complete the extension task for you to have a go at after your challenge – one of which involves drawing.
If you want to practise your times tables why not have a go at TTRS or one of these games: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables
Art
For Art we are going to carry on completing our work looking at different artists and the style they used. This week we will be looking at Van Gogh I would like you to read through the PowerPoint to learn about his life and work. I would then like you to either complete one of the Van Gogh inspired colouring pages (use whatever you have at home to complete these pencils, paint, chalk etc) or challenge yourself and have a go at copying one of his pieces yourself.
PE
Ship Ahoy
You are to imagine that you are on a ship and you need to respond to the commands of the captain. Use gesture initially to support commands.
Run to the bow – run to the end of the room
Lifeboat – pretend to row
Captains coming – stand still and salute
Periscope – lie on back and lift one leg
Jump to the starboard – jump to the right
Climb the ropes – pretend to climb
Swab the deck – pretend to sweep/scrub
Today’s Physical Challenge
Can you design a training circuit using different ways of movement that help you improve your balance while moving. Travel round your circuit as quickly as you can and stay in balance. If you lose your balance, you must return to the start. If you get round the circuit successfully, increase the difficulty! We then want you to analyse what went well and what could be improved for next time. If you could write down your session plan or draw pictures that will be brilliant to see when you are back!
If you feel like you’re missing your friends – why not send them an email?
On PurpleMash you can use: https://www.purplemash.com/app/links/2email#/inbox to send messages to anyone in Year 4.
Please remember to send us any work you complete at some point during the day on either PurpleMash or through to either opal@galleyhill.herts.sch.uk or coral@galleyhill.herts.sch.uk
We miss you and can’t wait to see you soon!
Team Year 4!
