Galley Hill Primary School, Hemel Hempstead. Galley Hill rated GOOD by Ofsted. Value of the Month - PERSEVERANCE

Monday

Welcome back to our distance English learning!  We are going to start a new English unit today - this is a story writing (narrative) unit.

Learning Focus: We will be focusing on inference skills (reading between the lines - or pictures in today's lesson!)

Below you will find a picture.  Look at it really closely,  look at all the details you can see.

You need to think about/discuss with an adult these questions:

What could this book be about?

Who are the people in the picture?

What is happening in the picture?

When/Where is this book set? What are the clues?

Jot down your ideas in your workbook - you could make a spider diagram or a list of notes.

Well done for taking a close look ... now we are going to take a look at some other pictures from the book.

You need to use your detective skills Year 3!  Remember inference is all about what you can see and what you CANNOT see!

Activity: This term, I will be giving you the chilli options (there will not always be 3!) so that you can choose your own level of challenge.  Read each chilli before you decide which one you would like to do.

Chilli 1: Choose 1 picture from below.  Use these questions to make notes/spider diagram/ write around the picture.

What is happening in the picture?  What can you see?  What clues are there about the place? What can you tell about the people (if there are any): age, feelings etc?

Chilli 2: Choose 2 pictures from below.  Use these questions to make notes/spider diagram/ write around the picture.

What is happening in the picture?  What can you see?  What clues are there about the place? What can you tell about the people (if there are any): age, feelings etc? What might have happened just before or after this picture? What makes you think this?

Plenary: Share your ideas with someone in your house.  Do they agree with you?  Do they have other ideas?
