Activities for Monday

English

To explore sentence structure

Today we are going to be looking at different kinds of sentences.

I would like you to go through the PowerPoint which will have explanations about each sentence type and some examples to help you.

There is also a video you can watch of Miss Hosein explaining the different types.

You are focusing on these sentence types. I would like you to write at least 4 examples of each sentence type. Your sentences can be about anything that you choose. I have included some more examples in red to help you.

· sentences using only one clause (main clause)
The cat was sleeping happily on the mat.

· sentences with two clauses joined by a conjunction
The cat was asleep on the mat and the dog was sitting at the window.

· sentences beginning with the main clause and are followed by one or more subordinate clauses
The cat was sleeping happily on the mat although their tail was moving wildly.

· sentences beginning with the subordinate clause and followed by one or more clauses
Although their tail was moving wildly, the cat was sleeping happily on the mat.

Spelling
Choose 10 words from the 3/4 word list and use them in a sentence. If you want to do a little extra you might want to do some rainbow writing, pyramid spelling, an acrostic poem or a nonsense story.

Reading

Today you will be completing some comprehension that’s all about a Treasure Island. We are enjoying our pirate learning in English! There are three challenges for you to choose from: one star is your accessible option, two stars is tricky and three stars can be very challenging.

Maths

This week we are moving onto to geometry and shape starting with triangles. As we are focusing on geometry, you have a home learning booklet we can work through and we will be uploading additional extensions each day for you to have a go.
