LO To identify conventions of poetry

What is a nonsense poem?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics
/z4mmn39/articles/zgbyw6f

Read through the four different nonsense poems. What do you notice about them? Does it rhyme? Does it make sense? Does it have a set amount of lines in each stanza? How does it make you feel?

Choose your favourite of the four nonsense poems.

Annotate the poem – highlight words you like, rhymes you enjoy, draw a emojis showing how you feel, write some synonyms, look up any words you don’t know the meaning of.

Then you have one of two tasks to choose from…

  1. Draw some pictures showing what the poem made you imagine
  2. Try and memorise the poem and perform it off by heart

Spelling
Choose 10 words from the 3/4 word list and use them in a sentence. If you want to do a little extra you might want to do some rainbow writing, pyramid spelling, an acrostic poem or a nonsense story.

Reading
Today in reading I would like you to focus on interpretation and adaptation. So I would like you to choose your favourite scene from your favourite book and adapt it into a comic strip.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stormbreaker-Graphic-Novel-Alex-Rider/dp/1406366323/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=alex+rider+comic&qid=1590935905&sr=8-8 If you go on amazon you can choose the look inside option to see how it might look.

Maths

Today you will be recapping place value and focusing on rounding to the next number. You will need to look at the column values and think about your rounding rules. If the number is 5 or higher it will be rounded up. If it is 4 or lower it will go down to the orignbal number.

Go through the PowerPoint to remind you how to round and the rules. You then have a set of tasks to do and there are some challenges and games labelled EXTENSION if you’re looking for extra.

If you want to practise your times tables why not have a go at TTRS or one of these games: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables
