Yesterday, our children from Year 2 participated in a workshop with a member of staff from Frogmore Paper Mill. I was lucky enough to pop over and see some of the children in action making their own recycled paper. They were so interested and enthused by the opportunity. This workshop was to support their learning about local history and how the paper making and print industry was so important in Hemel Hempstead’s past. I take real pride in the staff ensuring that the children get to participate in these kinds of activities in order to promote their learning. Thank you to the Year 2 staff team and parents who came to support.
In another exciting adventure, as I write this, the children from Year 1 are visiting Ruislip Lido to support their learning in Science and Geography. I know they have an exciting day of activities planned and hope they have all had a fantastic time. Thanks also to the Year 1 staff team and their supporting parents.
Sports Day
Just a reminder that our Sports Day for this year is taking place on Wednesday 1st July. This will be from 9:15am to 11:30am for children in Key Stages 1 and 2 (years 1 to 6) and from 1:30pm to 2:45pm for children in Early Years (Nursery and Reception). Parents will need to leave site between the two events if they are attending both.
As with previous years, we ask please that the children come to school on that day in their PE shorts and trainers with a top in the colour of their house if at all possible. The colours are:
Horowitz – Blue
Rowling – Green
Wilson – Yellow
Dahl – Red
If you are unsure which house your child is in, please speak to your child’s class staff and they will be able to let you know. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
Transitions
Behind the scenes, we are extremely busy planning and preparing for the children’s transitions to their new classes, or new schools in the case of Year 6. This is a detailed and carefully planned process in order to ensure the best for all of our children.
All children will have the chance to come together in their new classroom , with their new teacher on Thursday 9th July in the morning. This is the day that our Year 6 children should be visiting their secondary schools. The children will be given a letter on that day to tell you which class they are in and there will be an opportunity after school (3:15pm to 3:45pm) on the same day for parents to visit the new classroom and say hello to the teacher. As with previous years, there will be ‘Welcome Meetings’ for each year group early in the new school year.
Statutory Assessments
Well done to our children in Year 1 and Year 4 who all participated in statutory assessments this week. Year 1 smashed their reading with the phonics screener and the Year 4s showed themselves to be times table legends in their multiplication tables check. We were incredibly proud of all of the children and they certainly displayed our ‘Be Your Best’ expectation.
Thank A Teacher Day
Wednesday 17th June is national ‘Thank a Teacher’ day. I am sure you will all want to join me in saying a massive THANK YOU to all of our school staff who make so much difference to our children every day.
Friday 3rd July 9am to 10am, SEND parent coffee morning
Our Mental Health Support Team worker Shania, will be joining our coffee morning. She will explain what support her service can offer and will speak about how you can support your child at home with anxiety.
