Goodness, what a week it has been! I want to thank you all for your on-going support during this period of extreme weather and for working with us as we try to balance the education of the children, expectations of the Department of Education and welfare of everyone. As ever, the Galley Hill community has really pulled together with our children at the heart of what we do. I want to extend a particularly huge thank you to all of our staff, including our Herts Catering colleagues, who have kept the school running and the children fed in these uncomfortable conditions. Hopefully it’ll be a little cooler next week, especially with sports day on the horizon.
Sports Day
A reminder that sports day is taking place this coming Wednesday (1st July). This will be from 9:15am to 11:30am for children in Key Stages 1 and 2 (years 1 to 6) and from 1:30pm to 2:45pm for children in Early Years (Nursery and Reception). Parents will need to leave site between the two events if they are attending both.
As with previous years, we ask please that the children come to school on that day in their PE shorts and trainers with a top in the colour of their house if at all possible. The colours are:
Horowitz – Blue
Rowling – Green
Wilson – Yellow
Dahl – Red
If you are unsure which house your child is in, please speak to your child’s class staff and they will be able to let you know. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
As with recent years, the focus of Sports Day at Galley Hill is entirely on the children. Adult races in the past have ended up being very dangerous and have led to injuries and complaints and so these no longer take place. We apologise for any disappointment this causes.
Transitions
Behind the scenes, we are extremely busy planning and preparing for the children’s transitions to their new classes, or new schools in the case of Year 6. This is a detailed and carefully planned process in order to ensure the best for all of our children.
All children will have the chance to come together in their new classroom , with their new teacher on Thursday 9th July in the morning. This is the day that our Year 6 children should be visiting their secondary schools. The children will be given a letter on that day to tell you which class they are in and there will be an opportunity after school (3:15pm to 3:45pm) on the same day for parents to visit the new classroom and say hello to the teacher. As with previous years, there will be ‘Welcome Meetings’ for each year group early in the new school year.
In order to help prepare for this, on Tuesday next week (30th June), children will go in their current classes to visit both of the classrooms in the next year group and have a good look around so that they become familiar.
End of Year Reports
All children will receive their written end of year report on Friday 17th July. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we will be emailing the reports out this year. If you would prefer a paper copy, please speak to your child’s class teacher or send them an email via the admin@galleyhill.herts.sch.uk email address.
Sharing Assembly
Thank you to Team Jade for a brilliant sharing assembly this week. Our final sharing assembly of the school year will be presented by Reception Garnet at 9am on Thursday 2nd July. Any parents wishing to attend should come to the school office at that time.
