This week, it was the turn of our Year 3/4 footballers to go to a tournament and represent the school. I was overjoyed to speak with the adults who accompanied this trip (Miss Friend and Mrs Harris) when they returned. They told me how fantastically our children played together, despite having never played as a team in the past. They also told me how impressed they were by the behaviour of the children in the team. Thank you all for being such good role models and following our Galley Hill Expectations.
As a reminder, our expectations for all pupils are: Be Safe; Be Respectful and Be Your Best. This is what we base much of our teaching for personal development on and I feel sure you will all agree that these are excellent expectations for life as well as school.
Food Bank Support / Donations
As you will know, we hold our own foodbank in the staff room for Galley Hill families in need of support. If you ever feel like you need a bag of food to see you through a tricky period, please speak to any member of staff, whom you feel comfortable speaking to, and they will ensure that you are provided with some food for a few days.
Similarly, if you are in a more fortunate position and are able to make a small donation of dried food items for our bank, we would be extremely grateful to receive it. Please bring donations to the school office.
School Uniform Expectations
Thank you to all parents who ensure their child is always in the correct school uniform. Our children generally look smart each day. Just a reminder that cycling shorts are NOT part of school uniform and should not be worn unless this is under a skirt or dress for modesty. If a child is wearing cycling shorts on a PE day, they should be of an appropriate length and not the very short ‘hotpants’ style shorts.
Additionally, a quick reminder that all school shoes / trainers should be black please. Many thanks in your support in maintaining our high expectations.
Health and Safety Rehearsals
This morning we held our termly fire drill and we were very impressed with how quickly the children exited the building and how well they all followed our procedures – well done Team GH!
Next week, we will be doing our first lockdown practice. This would be used in situations such as an animal loose on the playground or some type of chemical leak in the atmosphere. As with our fire drills, we will keep this as low key as possible with children sitting at their places in the classroom and teachers locking all doors, windows and blinds in response to the signal.
VE Day Class Parties
Next Thursday, 8th May is the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The children will be learning all about what this means in class assemblies, and will be holding class parties in the afternoon. You are welcome to send your child to school with a change of clothes in red, white or blue for this event, and are welcome to bring in a party snack (nut free) for the class to share.
Donations for Outside play
Thank you so much for the donations for outside play. Please continue to leave items outside the school office.
