Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

Welcome back to the final half term of the year. I cannot believe that we have reached this point already! As ever in the second half of summer, it is due to be a busy one and this has already started this week with the Year 3 local walk to support their learning in Geography and a fantastic Team Amethyst sharing assembly. The children have certainly started the half term ready to learn and their behaviour in Celebration Assembly this morning was absolutely exemplary. Well done Team GH!

Uniform Expectations

Once again, I would like to remind all parents about our uniform expectations. These are clearly listed on our website: Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery - Uniform and does include that children should be wearing black shoes or trainers only.

Ensuring that the children are used to wearing the specified uniform now is preparing them for their future lives at secondary schools and in the workplace. We thank you for your support with this.

Sharing Assemblies

We are looking forward to our final sharing assemblies of the year taking place this half term. All take place at 9am and are as follows:

Thursday 12th June – Team Diamond

Thursday 26th June – Team Jade

Thursday 3rd July – Team Garnet

Eid al-Adha

We hope that all of our Muslim families celebrating Eid today have some wonderful family time. Eid Mubarak to you all!

Sports Day

This year our sports day will be taking place on Wednesday 2nd July. The event for children in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two (Years 1 to 6) will take place from 9:15am to 11:30am. The event for children in Nursery and Reception will take place from 1:30pm to 2:15pm (Morning only Nursery children should be brought back to school for 1:30pm). Parents and carers are welcome to attend the event but will need to leave the school site between 11:30am and 1:30pm.

Children should come to school in their PE shorts and trainers on this day. They should wear a t-shirt in the colour of their school house (Horowitz – blue / Wilson – yellow / Dahl – red / Rowling – green). If you are unsure which house your child is in, please speak to their class teacher.

As with previous years, due to a number of serious health and safety incidents in the past, this event is only for the children to participate in and there will not be any races for parents or staff. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Multiplication Tables Check and Phonics Screener Check

This week, our children in Year 4 began taking part in their national Multiplication Tables Checks and worked amazingly. Well done to all who have already completed the check and good luck to those who are completing them next week. Also next week, our children in Year 1 will be working with their teacher to complete their Phonics Screening Checks. These are also national tests and the children will work 1:1 to show off their amazing phonics ability. Good luck Year 1.

SPACE SEND Parent/Carer Coffee Morning

Please come along to the next SEND Parent/Carer coffee morning on Friday 27th June. SPACE will be there to explain how they can help and support families.

A time to drink tea, coffee, eat biscuits and chat from 9am to 9.30am.

Then meet the SPACE representative at 9.30am.

SPACE are an award winning Hertfordshire based charity supporting families of children and young people who are neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Tourette’s and other neurodiverse conditions.)

Whether you think your child may be neurodivergent, are going through the diagnostic process, or have already received a diagnosis you are in safe hands.

If you are able to attend then please confirm your attendance via Arbor. You will find the coffee morning listed under Clubs on your child's Arbor account.

Wednesday 11th June

Please be aware that on Wednesday (11th June), we are hosting a staff meeting with a number of other local schools. For this event, cars will be parking on the KS2 playground from just after 3:30pm. Please ensure that you promptly exit the school grounds on this day. Many thanks.
