In assembly on Monday we were talking about our Galley Hill Expectations:
· Be respectful
· Be safe
· Be your best
We particularly focused on the theme of respect, talking about why it was important to treat others in the way you would like to be treated and talking about what respectful behaviour might look like. Once again this week, the children really have demonstrated their strong understanding of this by the way they have been behaving around the school and in their interactions with staff and each other. It really is a pleasure to be a part of our Galley Hill Community.
Parent Involvement
We believe strongly that our children will make the best progress if there is a strong partnership between work and home. One way we try to do this is through finding opportunities for parental involvement in school and sharing information about your child’s learning with you. Thank you to everybody who has already attended one of our Welcome Meetings as the first opportunity this school year for you to be involved.
Coming up, we have our monthly Open Classroom events beginning on 2nd October. These are opportunities for you to go into your child’s room to look at their learning in their books and on displays. Following on from that, we have our first set of Parent Consultations on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th October and a Phonics Open Morning on Friday 24th October. Further details will follow nearer the time but we hope to see as many of you as possible.
Safer Roads
I would just like to give another reminder about considerate parking before and after school each day. There are zig zags and yellow lines on the roads near to all of our gates but a small number of people continue to park extremely dangerously: blocking pavements for pedestrians (particularly buggies and wheelchair users) and making it very difficult for other cars to pass. Please park further away from the school (such as near the cricket pavilion) and walk your child in rather than putting lives in danger. Many thanks.
Staff News
I would like to say a MASSIVE congratulations to Miss Penning, who found out over the summer that she had successfully passed her National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership. This is an 18 month course and takes a lot of learning time on top of teaching full time. We are very proud of her achievement.
Additionally, Miss Penning has done a tremendous job of leading PE once again for another year and we also learnt as school finished for the summer that Galley Hill had achieved a GOLD Schools Games Mark. This is a recognition of the number of sporting events our children are involved in throughout the school year. Well done Team Galley Hill!
