Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

Thank you to all parents who attended our Open Classrooms event yesterday. We know the children love to share their learning with loved ones and take pride in doing so. We really hope you enjoyed seeing how hard your child has already worked this academic year. Our next open classrooms is taking place on Monday 3rd November.

Also on the theme of parent involvement, you should now have received your link to book an appointment for our first round of parent consultations. These take place in the school halls and give you an opportunity to have a direct meeting with your child’s class teacher to review how they have settled in and their learning so far. We really encourage as many of you as possible to sign up for this important opportunity.  If you need any help booking an appointment then do call the office.

Staff News

I am incredibly sad to share with you that, after being a part of our school community for over 20 years, Ms Ambrose, our school secretary, will be leaving Galley Hill at October half term. She has been such an asset to our team over her time and we know that so many of you will miss her as much as we will. I am sure you will all want to join me in wishing her every success as she takes on a new challenge in a new school.

Harvest

Just a reminder about the letter that we have sent regarding the collection of non-perishable food items for our school-based food bank for Harvest. If you would like to contribute any items, we would be grateful if you brought them in next week. Andrew Masters, the local pastor who visits us at school, will be leading the children in a harvest themed assembly on Monday.

We run our food bank throughout the year. If you ever find yourself in need, please, please speak to any member of staff who you feel comfortable speaking with and we will subtly provide you with some items. We do not want any of our community to go hungry.

Maths Support at Home

We are regularly asked about ways to support learning at home. Our Maths scheme, White Rose, do have a bank of home learning videos that cover a range of topics for all year groups if ever you would like to access them. They can be accessed here: https://whiteroseeducation.com/parent-pupil-resources/maths/home-learning Please refer to the curriculum overviews that have been sent home or speak to your child’s class teacher if you would like to know which would be the most appropriate to focus on.

Diwali

As we approach the Hindu festival of Diwali, if any parents/carers will be celebrating and would like to come in to school to share your family's traditions you would be most welcome. This could be in your child's class, with the year group, or even the whole school! Please inform your child's class teacher or the school office if this is something you would be interested in, we would love to hear from you.

World Mental Health Day

Just a reminder that on Friday 10th October, Galley Hill will be participating in World Mental Health Day, We are therefore inviting each child to come into school on that day wearing something yellow, on top of their usual school uniform, e.g. a pair of socks, a scarf, hairband, jumper etc. Staff will be getting involved as well!

SPACE coffee morning

We are holding a coffee morning on Friday 17th October at 9am with SPACE, a local charity who help support neurodiverse families. If this is something that is of interest to you then please sign up on Arbor to register your attendance.
