Yesterday afternoon, Mrs Reynolds hosted the finale to our Black History Month events with all of the children coming together in the hall for our showcase. Each class wore the headdresses they had made, inspired by the Notting Hill Carnival, and shared what they had learnt about a significant black figure from the past or present. We all enjoyed watching a video, put together by Miss Scott (thank you!) of the ‘carnivals’ that had taken place across the school. Thank you so much to Mrs Reynolds for organising this event. All of the children appeared to really enjoy it.
Staff News
As you already know, today was Miss Ambrose’s final day at Galley Hill after 23 years. She has asked me to pass on her thanks to everyone who has shared good wishes for her new job role or kindly given her a gift. We will very much miss her.
I am delighted to share that after half term, Mrs Sproat will be taking on the role of school secretary. We are in the process of recruiting a new office administrator and will update you about the new member of our team as soon as possible.
Technically, today was also Miss Penning’s final day at Galley Hill as she is getting married over half term! I am sure you will all want to join me in wishing her and her new husband the happiest of wedding days. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Thomson back to school after the holidays.
Roles and Responsibilities for Children
This year, Mrs Birtchnell has been leading a project thinking about the roles and responsibilities for children in school. Traditionally, we have had a school council at Galley Hill but we want to increase the number of children involved and bring about more purpose to the roles. We therefore have a range of ‘job opportunities’ for children in Key Stage Two. These were shared with the children in assembly on Monday. The children can apply for these roles by asking their class teacher for an application form, completing it and handing it to the appropriate staff member by Friday 7th November.
The roles available are:
House Captains for children in Year 6 – apply to Mrs Birtchnell
Well-Being Hero for children in Years 3-6 – apply to Mrs Reynolds
Reading Champions for children in Years 4 or 5 - apply to Mrs Spooner
Digital Leaders for children in Years 5 or 6 - apply to Mrs Parsons
Eco-Warrior for children in Years 3-5 – apply to Miss Scott

We would like to say an enormous thank you and well done to all of the children and staff for their hard work this term. We hope that you all have a lovely week off and look forward to seeing all of the children back on Monday 3rd November.
Open Classrooms
Our next open classrooms is taking place on Monday 3rd November so please take this opportunity if you are able to visit your child's classroom and see the amazing work that they have been doing.
