Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

This week, our children from Early Years have been participating in National Nursery Rhymes Week. Yesterday, it was an absolute delight to see our youngest children dressed as characters from nursery rhymes and put on a special performance for parents. They really did do such an incredible job of performing in front of a large crowd and they really seemed to enjoy the experience. Thank you to our Early Years staff who put together the performance and to parents for the amazing outfits.

Punctuality

We have a growing number of children who are regularly late to school. Lateness has an impact on both your own child’s progress and can also be disruptive to the learning of the rest of the class. We would like to remind you that doors open at 8:40am and the school day starts at 8:45am. Arriving after this time means your child is late for school. Many thanks in supporting us in improving punctuality across the school.

Staff News

I am very sad to share with you that Mrs Dodkin will be leaving Galley Hill on Friday 28th November. Mrs Dodkin makes a fantastic contribution to the progress of many of our children in Years 5 and 6 with the support she gives them in her role as an SEND Teaching Assistant. We are so grateful for all she has done over her time with us and wish her every success in her new role at St Luke’s School. We know with her passion for special needs, she will be an amazing asset to their team.

The recruitment process is well under way for a replacement for Mrs Dodkin and we look forward to interviewing candidates next week.

Netball Kit

This week our netball team played their first game since we purchased them a new, more professional looking kit. We are very grateful to the parent who shared pictures of the girls with us. They really did look smart!

Reminder - Year 6 SATs Meeting for Parents

We would like to invite parents of children in Year 6 to a short meeting about the children’s Statutory Assessment Tests, including how we support them to prepare and what the test week is like. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Mrs Spooner and Mrs Toncheva will be hosting this session on Monday 17th November at 5:40pm and we anticipate it lasting about half an hour.

Reminder - Year 5 PGL Meeting for Parents

On the same day, (Monday 17th November), Mrs Spooner will also be holding a meeting for parents of children currently in Year 5 about the Year 6 residential to PGL which takes place in the Autumn Term each year. Again this will be an opportunity to find out a little more and ask questions ahead of deciding whether or not you would like your child to attend next year. The meeting will take place at 5pm.

SEND Coffee Morning

Tuesday 18th November 9am - Please come and join us for our SEND Coffee Morning with Mrs Larner and Mary Nyariki our family support worker. The theme for this meeting will be 'Support with anxiety, behaviour and routines within the home'.  Please sign up on Arbor (under Clubs) if you will be attending. Coffee and biscuits will be available.
