Christmas continues in full swing here at Galley Hill! Thank you so much to children and staff in Key Stage One and Nursery who put on such fantastic Christmas performances this week. It is always wonderful to hold these community events and I hope all who attended enjoyed the shows as much as we did.
Next week, we continue the celebrations with a visiting pantomime in school on Tuesday, our Christmas jumper day, dinner and sing-along on Wednesday and our class parties on Thursday or Friday. After all of that, we will most certainly need a holiday!
Staff News
I am so excited and proud to share with you all that Miss Barnes, Team Crystal’s class teacher, has been selected for the national Taekwondo team and will be representing Great Britain in the European Championships during 2026. I am sure you will all want to join me in congratulating her. She is such a role model for our children starting out in sports.
From January, Mrs Oakley, our Early Years Leader, will be working four days a week so that she is able to support her family with ‘Nanny duties’. We are very pleased that Mrs Kaur, who is well known to the school and already teaches Emerald every Wednesday, will be teaching Team Turquoise on a Monday.
On Monday, we will be welcoming a new midday supervisor. We are delighted that Miss Adams will be joining the Galley Hill team.
Inconsiderate / Illegal Parking
This week, there have been a number of problems on Pudding Lane due to illegal or inconsiderate parking before school. We have contacted the council to ask for them to start sending the traffic warden once again at key times of the day. In the meantime, we request that people consider the safety of others when deciding where to park and take some extra time so that there is no need to park illegally. Zig zag and double yellow lines are in place to ensure that children are safe.
Christmas Parties
Next week, we will be holding class Christmas parties. These will take place on Thursday for Nursery, Reception and Years 3, 4, 5, 6. Parties for Years 1 and 2 will take place on Friday. On their party day, children should come to school wearing their school uniform. They should bring party clothes to change into in a named carrier bag. Squash and biscuits will be provided by school.
Attachment Research Community
We are very proud that Galley Hill School is now a member of the Attachment Research Community. This is an organisation that supports schools to become attachment and trauma aware. As part of this community, we are able to provide training and the most recent research relating to supporting the attachment needs of all. Mrs Jackson, our Assistant Head, leads on our work in this area and is trained to provide training to others.
