Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

I would like to begin by wishing all of our community a happy new year – may 2026 bring health and happiness to you all.

The teachers began the new term with a day of Word Aware training on Monday. This is an exciting initiative to support the children in building their vocabulary. We are very grateful to Mrs Larner for organising this training, leading this area of our work and writing more information for you as parents about it that can be found further down this newsletter.

It has been fantastic to see the children all back in school and to hear about their holidays. All classes have already been working hard and we hope that Year 4 have had a fantastic experience at the Roman Festival at St Albans Abbey today. We are so pleased it was not snowed-off!

Galley Hill Food Bank

We are very aware that January can be a really difficult month for many reasons, including financial ones. We never want any of our families to go hungry and do hold a basic food bank in school. If you ever find yourself in a position that you need a bag of food to get by, please speak to any trusted member of staff and they will discretely organise for a bag of provisions to be put together for you.

Open Classrooms

Our next open classrooms event will take place on Monday (12th January) from 3:15pm to 3:45pm. This is a chance for you to go into your child’s classroom to look at their learning on display and in their books. Please allow all of the children to leave the class and then return into the classroom through the door your child exits if you wish to attend.

School Uniform and PE Kits

Just a remind that our school uniform and PE kit expectations can be found on our website: Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery - Uniform

This includes that children should wear plain black shoes or trainers for school and that PE kit should be a plain or school logo royal blue t-shirt with a PLAIN black or navy tracksuit. All the supermarket chains do variations of the plain tracksuits that are suitable for school.

SEND Coffee Morning

Please don't forget that our next SEND coffee morning is on Wednesday 21st January with Mrs Elsey, Mrs Larner, and Alisha, a family support worker from Dacorum Family Services team. Coffee Morning will start at 9am. Please register your interest on Arbor under 'clubs'.
