As ever, we have had a busy week of learning and amazing experiences at Galley Hill. We hope that many of you had the chance to visit your child’s classroom to see their learning at Monday’s Open Classrooms. On Thursday morning, our children from Year 5 went to visit Laureate Academy in order to use their Science labs, while children from 4 Opal performed their brilliant sharing assembly. We also had a visit from the Fire Brigade to support Year 1 with their learning about the Great Fire of London. I am very grateful to the support of the parents and staff for putting on this range of events to benefit the children.
Parent Governor
As outlined in the last newsletter, we currently have a vacancy for a parent governor and we are really hoping for some expressions of interest in this very important voluntary role in school. If you would like to hear more about what it means to be a governor and what you have to do, we would be very grateful if you could arrange to meet our chair of governors, Mrs Tracey Hunter, via the school office.
Breaktime Snack
Children in Early Years and Key Stage One are all provided with a snack for breaktime in school through the National Fruit Scheme. Children in Key Stage Two are encouraged to bring in a snack for break time however as a reminder, this should be whole or cut fruit / vegetables or bread sticks only. Many thanks for your support with this.
Is My Child Well Enough for School?
As there are currently a number of coughs, colds and potential tummy bugs circulating, we have had many questions about whether or not children should come to school. I direct you again to some really useful guidance from the NHS, which covers a range of childhood illnesses: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS As a general rule, children are fine to come to school with a cough or a cold however, if they have had a sickness bug, they should remain home for 48 hours after the LAST bout of sickness or diarrhoea. Many thanks for supporting both good attendance and a healthy school community – I am very aware this is a hard balance to maintain.
