In our whole school assembly on Monday, we talked about one of our Galley Hill expectations – Be Safe. We talked about why this was important to keep ourselves and others from getting harmed, physically or emotionally and what ‘being safe’ might look like within our school community. We will be continuing this theme in assemblies throughout the term, thinking about different aspects of being safe, including online safety, tidy environments and safe play.
Sharing Assemblies
Our next sharing assembly will be presented by 2 Pearl on Thursday 29th January at 9am. As ever, we welcome parents and carers to enter through the main school entrance. Team Topaz will also be presenting their learning this half term with their assembly taking place on Thursday 12th February, also at 9am.
Nursery Applications
Applications for places at our Nursery for September 2026 are now open and will close on 27th February. This is for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. We offer places for 15 hours a week and 30 hours a week. If you would like to apply for a place for your own child, or are recommending us to a friend or family member, please contact the office for further details about the application process.
Allergy Awareness Reminder
The health and safety of all of our children is of upmost importance to us at Galley Hill. As such, we want to remind you about our approach to allergens.
We want to do all that we can to reduce the risk from allergens to our school community. As such, we have requested for many years that nuts / nut products are not brought into school at any time. A reminder that this would include any chocolate spreads that also contain hazelnut, such as Nutella. We do have children and staff with severe nut allergies and we need to keep them safe.
We know that many parents like to send in a small treat for the class when it is their child’s birthday. This is certainly not expected and no one should feel any pressure to do so. If you do wish to provide your child’s classmates with something, this should be a small, pre-packaged item with the ingredients clearly labelled. We are not able to handout unpackaged or homemade items for birthdays.
If your child is diagnosed with an allergy at any time, even if this is mild, we ask that you please let the school know as soon as possible and check this is up to date on their Arbor records. Many thanks for your support with this.
Threadworm
We are aware of a couple of cases of Threadworm throughout the school. Please be aware of the symptoms of this - itching in the perianal area particularly at night. This can be spread directly from fingers and clothing so if your child does experience these symptoms do get this checked out by the GP and encourage your child to be regularly handwashing and clean all clothes/bedding/towels.
Hemel Storm Basketball
To raise the Profile of PE at our school and our local community Hemel Storm will be donating us 2 free family tickets for each home game!
Class teachers will be nominating children that have impressed them during their PE lessons or have been physically active at lunchtime. These children will then be entered into a draw to win a family ticket for the next Hemel Storm Game.
