Message from Mrs Birch

Mrs Birch
Mrs Birch - Headteacher

As we reach the end of the half term, I encouraged the children in assembly today to reflect on all that they have achieved since Christmas. We are so proud of the learning that we have seen in the last six weeks once again. It was so positive to celebrate those who have done things like cracked a times table they have been struggling with, developed their handwriting or in the case of our Year 6 children, mastered algebra! Well done Team Galley Hill! We look forward to seeing you all on 23rd February to keep on learning.

Lockdown Drill

As you may be aware, Martyn’s Law, which was passed following the Manchester Arena Bombing, requires all public places to have clear emergency procedures for invacuation and lockdown. As part of the requirements, we need to have lockdown drills occasionally within school. We will be talking to the children about some of the reasons that we may need to ‘invacuate’ and lockdown, such as a dog loose on the playground or the air ambulance landing on our field. After half term, we will be rehearsing our lockdown as a school. We intend to communicate that there is a lockdown procedure and class staff will get all children to sit still at their desks and ensure all windows, doors and blinds are closed.

Free Bibles

We are regularly visited in school by Andrew Masters from the Christian charity ‘Discovery Hemel’. In the next half term, he will be visiting all of the classes in Key Stage Two. As part of his visit the children will be offered a free Bible to take home if they wish. If you do not want your child to receive a Bible, please let us know by email (admin@galleyhill.herts.sch.uk) with FAO and the class teacher’s name in the subject.

Staff News

As Ruby parents already know, today is Miss Lewis’ last day before her maternity leave. I am sure you will all want to join me in wishing her all the very best for the coming months.

I am delighted to share that we have two new SEND teaching assistants starting at Galley Hill after half term. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs Serbu and Mrs Geoghegan to our team.

Year 5 and Year 6 PCSO Visit

On Wednesday 25th February our local PCSO Harry Underwood will be coming in to school in the afternoon to have a talk with our Year 5 and 6 children about keeping safe outside and anti social behaviour.

Dogs at School

Please can we remind you that dogs are not allowed on the playground. Can you also be mindful when waiting by the school gates with a dog not to stand too close to the gates as some of the children are scared of dogs and are getting upset before coming in to school. Thank you for your support with this.

Hemel Storm Basketball

To raise the Profile of PE at our school and our local community Hemel Storm will be donating us 2 free family tickets for each home game!

Class teachers will be nominating children that have impressed them during their PE lessons or have been physically active at lunchtime. These children will then be entered into a draw to win a family ticket for the next Hemel Storm Game.

This week our winners are:

Tate S

Barnaby S

Please check your emails for the barcode! Children will also be given a paper copy!
