This week marks ten years since I took over as the headteacher at Galley Hill and I have reflected, with pride, about the number of children whose lives we have impacted in that time. It really is a privilege to lead such a caring and passionate community and I am very grateful to be a part of it. I look forward to continuing the journey with you all.
Sharing Assemblies
This term, our five remaining classes will share their learning in their Sharing Assembly. As parents of the impacted classes are already aware, we have had to change the time or date for two of them and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The assemblies will now be:
4 Coral – Thursday 7th May at 2:45pm
3 Ruby – Wednesday 10th June at 9am
2 Diamond – Thursday 11th June at 9am
1 Jade – Thursday 25th June at 9am
Reception Garnet – Thursday 2nd July at 9am
Governor Update
After many years of service, Marian Sparrow stepped down as a co-opted governor of the school at the end of the last term. We are very grateful to her for her wisdom and support over the years. We are delighted that her position on the board has been filled by Liz Ormonde, an experienced headteacher and local authority adviser. We have also been extremely pleased to welcome two new parent governors (Laura Armstrong and Katie Gregory) over the last few months.
Please ensure that these are shared with anyone who is likely to be booking a holiday for your family as you will be very aware that rules around term time holidays are now extremely strict and many families are now being fined.
We have looked at how we use our occasional day and an inset day to provide a long weekend towards the end of June next year when we usually have only the Friday or the Monday away from school. We hope this is useful to our families.
Roadworks on Galley Hill
We have been told that by the middle of next week the roadworks that are currently taking place on Galley Hill will literally be incorporating our school entrance and there is likely to be four-way traffic controls. We are very aware (because we get stuck in it too!) that this is already causing a lot of disruption, particularly in the mornings, and we anticipate that this may get worse. While we ask that you do try to allow a few more minutes for your journey if possible, we will be more lenient with the time for register closures (and therefore late marks) for those children who live at a distance from school where they have to drive.
PE Kits
Mrs Thomson and I did some monitoring of PE this week and it was a real treat to see the children so enthusiastic about developing their skills and enjoying physical activity. We did however notice a handful of children who were not wearing PE kit. Many of those spoken to reported that they did not have a kit at home. We just wanted to remind parents that children do not have to have the t-shirt with the school logo on it. Plain blue t-shirts are available relatively reasonably from most of the supermarkets. Our full list of PE kit and uniform expectations are available on our website: Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery - Uniform
Playground Equipment Before and After School
Please can you remind your children not to take out / use any of the play equipment on the playgrounds before or after school. This is for lunchtimes only when it is then tidied away ready for the next day. Thank you for your support with this.
