Revisit phase 3 sounds - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/flashcards-speed-trials

Teach: Today we are going to be continuing the ‘ew’ sound.

  • Questions you may ask.
  • What sound did we look at yesterday?
  • What sound does ‘ew’ make? (Remind children that it is a digraph and what does this mean?)
  • Explain to children that today they are going to write words with the sound ‘ew’ in it.
  • Model words: Chew, stew, blew, crew, view, drew.
  •

Practise: Children to complete the attached worksheet. The worksheet attached will include some words that do not have the ‘ew’ sound. Children need to say the word of the picture and identify whether it contains the ‘ew’ sound and they have to write the ‘ew’ word in the worksheets. There are three options please find the most suitable option.

Apply: Children to write the sentence. They may need modelling.

Examples of model sentences: 1. Chew the stew. 2. The new cabin crew. 3.The wind blew the kite.
