Galley Hill Primary School, Hemel Hempstead. Galley Hill rated GOOD by Ofsted. Value of the Month - PERSEVERANCE

Thursday

Spelling: Today is our creative day.  Take a look at all the different ways you could practise your learning from this week.  You could either choose one activity for 10 words from below OR do 1/2 words for each activity.  The choice is up to you!

There is a list of words below you can use to help you.  You will find that these are the ones in your test this week.

-el -le al
camel apple arrival
travel circle tidal
tunnel pebble central
squirrel juggle magical
towel pickle national
tinsel example tropical
  scramble

English: Today you are going to use all of your ideas to write your own 'Don't' poem in the style of Micheal Rosen.

Listen again or read the original poem.  Remember the rhythm is just as important as the rhyme so try reading your lines as you go to check you are happy with the rhythm.  (Take a look at the video clips from Tuesday's session if you need a re-cap!)

Some helpful information:

The structure of the rhyme in the same line lines is:

Don't (start of all lines) put (a verb - doing word) rhyme 1, preposition (where is the object?) rhyme 2.

Some of my ideas using the structure:

Don't put mice near the ice

Don't have a goal on the glass bowl

The main structure of the poem is below - this should help you with the layout and different sections.  The parts in red are only there to give you information - you don't need to copy them out!

Don't

Don’t do,

Don’t do,

Don’t do that.

* Sensible ideas*

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ____________________________________(word rhyming with fool)

Who do they think I am?

Some kind of fool?

* Silly ideas * (rhyming words within the line e.g. Don’t put beer in their ear)

One day they’ll say,

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ________________________________________________

Don't ________________________________________________

* You can add another verse of ‘silly’ Don’ts here before the final verse.

Don’t what?

Don’t __________________________________________(repeated line)

Don’t what?

Don’t __________________________________________(repeated line)

Who do they think I am?

Some kind of fool?
