Tuesday

Yesterday, you looked at the pictures from the book 'Escape from Pompeii' written by Christina Balit.  

Learning Focus: We will be think about how the characters are feeling and looking at different perspectives.

Your first job today is to listen to/watch the story.  Please click on the link below.

Read aloud book, Escape From Pompeii by Christina Balit, read by Paul Wirth

Now you have listened to the story think about/discuss with an adult these questions:

  • Who are the characters? (Write a list - you could watch/read back through the story to make this list)
  • Where is the story set?
  • What were the main events that happened in the story?

Activity: (there are 3 options to choose from – pick just one)

** Please open the word document to find the pictures. There is also a list of the character's to help you.

1 – Look at the before picture.  How are the people feeling?  Do they all feel the same? How do you know?  What are they doing? Where are they?

2 – Look at the after picture.  How are they feeling during/after Vesuvius has erupted?  What clues to we have? What has changed in the picture?  How is the place different?

Chilli 1 – Answer the questions for the before and after pictures.

Chilli 2 – Write one paragraph for each picture using the questions above to help you.

Chilli 3 – Write a diary pretending to be one of the character’s in the picture you choose.  Write at least 2 paragraphs which include what they were thinking and feeling before and after the eruption.

Tuesday - Activity Information and Resources

Plenary: Please read through and edit your work.  Check you have:

Use capital letters for the start of every sentence and all names e.g. Dino, Livia.

Use clear full stops ! or ? where needed.

Written in clear sentences - remember there should only be one conjunction (and, but, so, then, because) in each sentence.

Use description: feelings words, description of sounds, smells and what could be seen during the event.

Left a clear line between your paragraphs.
