Activities for Tuesday
LO To experiment with poetry
What nursery rhymes do you know? Nursery rhymes like nonsense poems are intended to be funny and entertaining.
Think of rhymes like Hickory Dickory, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Humpty Dumpty, Incy Wincey Spider and Pussycat Pussycat.
Go through the PowerPoint and explore a fractured nursery rhyme
Choose a familiar nursery rhyme and try to make it your own.
You could replace words or add a new stanza yourself.
Choose 10 words from the 3/4 word list and use them in a sentence. If you want to do a little extra you might want to do some rainbow writing, pyramid spelling, an acrostic poem or a nonsense story.
Today we would like you to create a reading quiz. We would like you to write between 10 and 20 questions based around books, authors and genres that someone could answer.
Questions like who was the author of Fantastic Mr Fox? How many books are there about Alex Rider? Who is the daughter of Athena in Percy Jackson? What is the name of the 6th Harry Potter book?
If you finish why not send it to your friends or teacher on 2email – can anyone get full marks?
For Maths you are working on dividing and multiplying by 0, 10, 100 and 1000. This is something we have done previously in class but we’re now moving onto doing this with decimals! This bitesize page will go through the teaching with you and there’s a quiz if you want to give it a go: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z36tyrd/articles/z2fkwxs
If you are looking for an extension here is a game you can play on PurpleMash with a partner. https://www.purplemash.com/#app/pup/maths_activities_Y5_multiplying_dividing_powers_10
If you want to practise your times tables why not have a go at TTRS or one of these games: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables
Think about what travel means and why people travel.
Why do you think people travel up mountains? What do they do?
There are many popular tourist mountain destinations, why do you think they are popular?
Why is mountain travel risky? Think about the risks of mountain travel and precautions people would need to take.
Create an advert about why people should visit / hike up a mountain
Challenge 1: poster
Challenge 2: leaflet
Today is Safer Internet day! We would like you to go through the slides and complete the activities based on how we can protect ourselves against advertising online.
We would then ask that you complete the PowerPoint quiz about being safe online and then you have been set a 2do to create a poster based on what you’ve learnt.
If you feel like you’re missing your friends – why not send them an email?
On PurpleMash you can use: https://www.purplemash.com/app/links/2email#/inbox to send messages to anyone in Year 4.
We miss you and can’t wait to see you soon!
Team Year 4!
