Reading

Please make sure that you read every day to an adult and discuss the text.

You could read anything from your house - books, comics, cereal packets, tv subtitles.

Don't forget that you have access to Rising Stars reading planet where you will find the same books that we normally send home (this will be another way for us to know that you are engaging with school work).  If you have forgotten your log in details then please do get in touch.

Oxford Owls is another great website with a wide range of books at different levels https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

You could also have a go at the reading challenges we posted here: https://www.galleyhill.herts.sch.uk/remote-learning-8/  - can you tick them all off by the time we return to school?

Phonics

Look through the phonics sheet.

Activity 1 - sorting

Sort the words into the correct column according to the way the 'ch' is pronounced.  Say each word out loud to help you.

Activity 2 - reading

Read the sentence out loud - identify the 'ch' word and which column you would sort it into.  remember to break longer words into smaller more manageable chunks to help you sound them out if they are a bit tricky.

Activity 3 - dictation writing

Ask someone in your house to say this sentence to you: The machine rolled along.  Write down the sentence using your phonics knowledge to help you.

You DO NOT need to print this sheet, you can complete your work on a whiteboard (just like we do in Phonics lessons) or into your book.

English

Today we are continuing with our poetry unit.

Today you will be reading some poems, choosing your favourite and publishing it. You can choose to print one out if it’s easier or just copy it straight from the screen.

Read through the PDF and think carefully about the questions you are asked.

Your activity is in the slides.

I have created a video of me reading through the slides if you find this easier than reading them yourself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWZCuea7w4Q&t=6s

Maths

Listen to us reading through the slides to you here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmsyAQnJdno

Today we are continuing to learn about subtracting using more formal written methods.

Today we are subtracting a 1-digit number from a 2-digit number using the expanded column method.

I have created a video to demonstrate the method to you which can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9-JiEb7gww

Look through the PDF document.  Your activity is included within the slides, once you have chosen which level is best for you open the relevant task PDF - if you cannot print then simply record directly onto your paper - make sure you show your working out.

Music

For music today we would like you to choose 1 of the challenges to complete (see the music challenge sheet below).

We would love to see photos (or even videos) of you completing your challenge so please do send them over to us.

Have fun!

RE (Religious Education)

For RE today you will be looking at how different religions say thank you to God/Allah.

Look through the RE PDF.  On page 4 there is a link to a BBC video : https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/prayer-in-islam/zjndxyc which we would like you to watch.  There is another BBC video to watch at the end: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zfhyr82%0D

Your task is included within the slides.
