Activities for Wednesday
LO To give good reasons
Listen to the story: The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish by Neil Gaiman.
I want you to have a think about who would you swap for a day and what would you swap them for?
For example I would swap my brother for the chance to meet a sloth so I would need to find a zoo keeper to carry out the swap with.
To persuade the zoo keeper I would need to give good reasons to make them want to take part in the swap.
Using the sentence starters write some sentences (between 5 and 10 sentences) that you would use to persuade someone to make the swap.
For example I want to swap my brother for a zoo keeper.
My sentences might be…
Just imagine how helpful it would be to have my brother help clean out the cages at the zoo, he’s young, strong and full of energy.
You could practise these on someone at home or email someone from Year 4 on PurpleMash. Maybe they might be persuaded?
It’s time for a reading challenge! The aim is to read the text in 60 seconds! You should then have 5 minutes to answer the questions that come with it. There are 4 different ones available! We would suggest you do at least 2 today.
Today we are focusing on time. To start with can you find out these facts online or from someone at home: How many seconds in a minute? How many minutes are in an hour? How many hours in a day? How many days in a year? How many months in a year? How many years in a decade? How many years in a century?
Your activity today is to convert between different units of time. The sheet attached has conversions which you can use to solve your questions. For instance if 1 minute is 60 seconds, for three minutes you would just multiply that 60 seconds by three.
You have three challenges to choose from A, B or C.
If you finish you might want to have a go at the EXTENSION.
If you want to practise your times tables why not have a go at TTRS or one of these games: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables

We are going to give you a problem each week and we would like to see how you will solve it.
Problem 1 – Write the message ‘Thank you NHS’ on a piece of paper without using any ‘normal’ writing utensil. So no pens, pencils, paint, crayons, chalk…etc you get the idea
If you feel like you’re missing your friends – why not send them an email?
On PurpleMash you can use: https://www.purplemash.com/app/links/2email#/inbox to send messages to anyone in Year 4.
We miss you and can’t wait to see you soon!
