Wednesday

Reading - If you need any new books adding to your rising stars account then please let us know.

Please make sure that you read every day to an adult and discuss the text.

You could read anything from your house - books, comics, cereal packets, tv subtitles.

Don't forget that you have access to Rising Stars reading planet where you will find the same books that we normally send home (this will be another way for us to know that you are engaging with school work).  If you have forgotten your log in details then please do get in touch.

Oxford Owls is another great website with a wide range of books at different levels https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

You could also have a go at the reading challenges we posted here: https://www.galleyhill.herts.sch.uk/remote-learning-8/  - can you tick them all off by the time we return to school?

Phonics

Look through the phonics sheet.

Activity 1 - sorting

Sort the words into the correct column according to the way the grapheme 'ea' is pronounced.  Say each word out loud to help you.

Activity 2 - reading

Read the sentence out loud - identify the 'ea' word and which column you would sort it into.  Remember to break longer words into smaller more manageable chunks to help you sound them out if they are a bit tricky.

Activity 3 - dictation writing

Ask someone in your house to say this sentence to you: We can bake a pie today.  Write down the sentence using your phonics knowledge to help you.

You DO NOT need to print this sheet, you can complete your work on a whiteboard (just like we do in Phonics lessons) or into your book.

English

This week we are continuing with our new unit about non-fiction texts.

Today you will be using a non-fiction text to gather information.

Read through the slides and think carefully about your answers, you will find your activity in the slides.

You can listen to me reading the slides out loud if you find this easier than reading yourself.

Maths

Today we are starting to learn about shape.

Today we are looking at 3D shapes.

You can listen to me reading the slides out loud if you find this easier than reading yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzBsOcIHT1o

Your activity is included within the slides.

Outdoor Learning

Wednesday is normally our slot to visit the school woodlands which we know you really enjoy doing so we have come up with an outdoor learning challenge for you to have a go at either in your garden or on your daily exercise.  Have fun!

Science

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST 2 ICE CUBES FOR TODAYS LESSON.

In science, we are continuing with our new topic exploring materials and their properties.

Today we are going to look at what materials would be best to stop an ice cube from melting.

Start by reading through the slides in the PDF.  Then complete the 'Science Recording sheet’ - if you cannot print the sheet simply record your work straight onto your paper.  Have fun.
