Welcome to Coral Class Blog
Spring Term
PE DAYS will continue to be Monday and Thursday.
Autumn Term
During the Autumn term in year 4 we have been super busy.
We started the year off settling really well into the routines of year 4 and have been working really hard.
In Geography, we learnt about Central America and compared this to where we live. We learnt a handy rhyme to help us to remember the countries that make up Central America ...
Big Gorillas eat hotdogs not cold pizza - Belize, Guatamala, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
In History, we have been learning about the Maya civilisation. To enrich our learning, we had a chocolate making workshop where we made chocolate lollies, created chocolate wrappers, learnt about the history of chocolate and tasted different chocolates, including raw cacao which was very bitter.
During the Autumn term, we also took part in Black history month. Each class focused on a celebrated black person and we found out about the amazing British Athlete Katarina Johnson Thompson and her achievements in the world of sport. We also found out about the history of the Nottinghill carnival, one of the biggest carnivals in the world. We then created our own carnival masks and had a mini in class carnival – it was so fun!
In PE, we took part in a cross-country event at JFK secondary school. We all tried our absolute hardest and enjoyed running around their field.
In Science, we learnt about the states of matter and what makes something a liquid, solid or a gas. We did lots of experiments, including weighing the gas in different fizzy drinks by first weighing them, then shaking the gas out and then weighing them again. We also tested whether all liquids flow – we found it most entertaining that a table was used as a slide for honey, ketchup, syrup and oil. We have also been learning about our teeth and digestion – we all know exactly how to take care of our teeth and why they are different shapes.
We have been working hard in maths and learning how to add and subtract four-digit numbers with exchanging, multiplying and dividing, finding the area of things to name but just a little bit of what we have been up to.
In English, we read the book Charlie and the Chocolate factory and used it to help us write instructions for the perfect hot chocolate.
We still have lots more fun to come including singing Christmas songs at the local care home, Christmas jumper and dinner day and a panto is coming to Galley Hill too, 'Oh, No it isn't!'
Come back soon to find out more of our adventures in Year 4 Coral.
