We have had an excellent start to year 5! This year, has started with a great time and lots of fun. Here is a review of some of the things we have been learning about and loving.
In art, we have been focusing on the artist Valerie Wilson. Valerie makes collages using fabric, she sews and also uses the technique batik to add detail to her work. We have experiment with batik, we found this very exciting.
In Music this year, we are very lucky to have a Ukele teacher come in, her name is Mrs Powell. We have learnt about the chords and we LOVE the song 'That thumb brush strum'. We have attached the song below for you all to hear.
We have our own historian this year, he is an expert in the Ancients Greeks (Theodore). We have enjoyed learning about the Greeks and Theo telling us some extra added details. This month, we have also been celebrating and learning about Black History month. We are having our very own celebration this week as a whole school.
This term, we have already been to a variety of sport festivals. The girls, have been to three: football, rugby and cross country. The boys went to rugby and cross country.
Autumn term 2
This term we have started Geography, we alternate each term between History and Geography. We are learning about Greece. We also alternate between Art and DT, this term is DT. We can not wait!
We have started to focus on fractions and we are loving this!
In PE, we are now focusing on gym. This week we worked in a group and we worked on moving a ball between each other.
We are carrying on ukele, we are so excited to learn some new songs.
TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY AS ITS CHRISTMAS SEASON AT SCHOOL! Lots of singing, dancing and whole community celebrations to come.
It is nearly the end of Autumn 2 and we have learnt so much this half term!
In English, we planned and wrote a 500 word story. We had to use a variety of year 5 grammar and punctation (relative clauses, fronted adverbials).
We focused on fractions throughout this term, LOTS and LOTS of fractions. It was never ending!
In Science, we learnt about forces. We focused on: friction, water resistance and air resistance. We made parachutes to test out air resistance, and we also designed a submarine that would move through the water quickly.
This term, we focused on Geography, and we learnt about Greece. We compared the different weather, we discussed why people would go to Greece and the landmarks in Greece.
We spent the final week of term making our cars, we used a variety of materials to create our cars (wood, dowling, elastic bands, cogs, batteries, wires and motors).
