Day Two - High Flying Adventures and some unexpected dips in the lake!
Today we started the day with snow and a lovely breakfast of cereal and toast. Then onto the activities!
Firstly, the Yap-a-trons! Kayson was pleased as at breakfast the yoghurt this morning was ‘class’ and is looking forward to more tomorrow. He did a great job climbing the gladiator and the trapeze although the shed got hit a few times on the way down! Jake faced his fear and got in the canoe. He had so many layers on he was twice his normal size! Lucy M was amazing in the high ropes and climbed the gladiator with no trouble! Lucie S was amazing on the high ropes! She did a sitting jump the first time then did a standing on her second go. Martina did the whole high ropes trail and even though it was scary she kept going! She then did it a few more times and after that was unstoppable. Nell was a powerhouse on the high ropes! She took it all in her stride going round 5 times including backwards and with no feet! Ronnie Y was cool as a cucumber in the canoe.
Next the Grape-a-doodles! Olivia had the breakfast of champs with multiple slices of toast and some cereal. Zachary J was totally relaxed on the canoe - literally chilling. Orange smooooothy! Olivia and Lucy P were an amazing belay team. Olivia went up the gladiator climb all the way to the tyres. She was so quick! Lola E was a loud melon on her canoe. Aimee managed to conquer her fears and climbed half the gladiator trail, she even braved the high ropes! Johnothan was very vigilant about safety in the canoe. Various reports of it taking on water or ‘breaking’ were quickly proved false. Chi-Wai was a very loud melon in his canoe. Archie was a loud apple squash, squash, squash! on his canoe and did amazingly on the high ropes persevering even when it was tricky. Nathaniel was a very loud banana on the canoe. He predicted several possible catastrophes - none came true!!
After that we have the Alphas. First they did abseiling. Jibril was brave and went first. Lila absolutely bossed it and Woody showed the most amazing resilience and kept pushing himself more and more each attempt. Everyone got to the top of the tower. In the afternoon, they all decided they would prefer a swim rather than stay in the canoe. All 8 of Mrs Higgs’ group managed to end up in the water. The boys due to some unfortunate rocking and leaning and Beau because she was trying to ‘add water to the canoe’ to level it out! Zoja wasn’t a fan of the lake and thought Polish spring water was far superior. They all quickly made it back to the cabin for warm showers and luckily still have all fingers and toes! Zach borrowed Mrs Higgs pink bobble hat and loved climbing the high tower. Zachary P overcame his fears to look over the edge of the high tower. Zoja was great at supporting and encouraging everyone . Beau tried everything with gusto. Tre loved the breakfast and is looking forward to the high ropes tomorrow.
Mrs Barnard’s group have finally chose their name for the week: The Undefeated Simpsons! Lenny was a big fan of the toast this morning! Then they moved onto canoeing Emily C beat her fear today and went on the canoe, whilst William did an excellent job helping people learn how to row! Although worried about the height, Lenny, Lucy M and Tyson did amazing at the abseiling! He also was incredibly kind and encouraged those who were finding it a little more tricky. If it wasn’t for him, William wouldn’t have had the courage to reach the top. Junior and Grace also went down the harder wall like pros! Grace, Bodie and William brought a tear to our eyes when they all banded together and gave Jibril their hats and gloves after he fell in the river.
The Groovy Lucazades as they’ve now deemed themselves did amazing at aerial activities! This included the aerial assault course, Jacob’s ladder and the leap of faith. Lola H showed so much resilience with the assault course and really pushed herself! Even though Jacob and Finley didn’t love the heights they did some amazing Spider-Man poses on the way down. Oliver was even fully upside down at one point! Lillie-Mae was fearless as she reached the top of the tower of doom and almost caught the hanging bar! During canoeing when entering the canoe Sonny somehow managed to stick his entire foot in the lake not the boat. Lillie, Lola H and Sonny were a great team as were Jacob, Finley and Oliver. They were very pleased that they all managed to remain in the canoe for the entire session.
Then we have group 6 who still haven’t decided on a name and are struggling between the Silly Sausages, the Squiggly Turtles or something to do with Capybaras. First, the climbing activities. Hannah, Logan and Alex completed the aerial assault course but only when Alex screamed down at Miss Hosein that he would do the course but only if he could have a snack if he finished! Jack and Adrian decided that their new roles were to be the group photographers. Emily and Sophia climbed the leap of faith with absolute confidence before jumping and gracefully making it to the ground. Emily even managed to fit in some English work - “despite having two pairs of socks, my toes are still freezing!” At lunch, Jack got the giggles about all the Jack based food with jacket potatoes and flapjacks! In canoeing everyone confidently got onto their canoes and had a go! Adrian did particularly well at paddling the oar. They played some games with the instructors and they were really impressed by Jack who knew all sorts of nautical terms. They decided he should be known as their first mate!
In the evening, we had a delicious roast then it was campfire time! Jibril had great actions joining in with all the campfire songs. Then for an early night as we still have some extremely packed days to come!
