    MILK FORM – AUTUMN TERM 2018 (5 SEPTEMBER – 21 DECEMBER 2018)

TO BE RETURNED BY MONDAY 16 JULY 2018

As from the 1 January 2015 the government had introduced a new directive that all school children be offered milk during the day. Therefore, this means that children in KS2 can have the option of milk as well as children in KS1. The cost of milk for the Autumn Term 2018 is £18.25

    • There is no charge for pupils in Foundation stage, if the child will still be 4 years old on 21 December 2018

    • The deadline for returning payment is Monday 16 July 2018, if your child is to receive milk for Wednesday 5 2018. If payment is received after this date, there will be a delay of up to a week for your child to receive milk.

    • The amount is calculated by the number of days in the term and therefore varies each term. There are 63 days in this term, calculated at 25p per day.

    • Parents/carers who are in receipt of Free School Meals (not universal free school meals) are eligible for Free School Milk. If your child wishes to have milk, this can only be ordered if the slip is returned.

    • We can only order milk for your child once full payment has been received.

      Yours sincerely

  • Year 4 Sleepover Letter

    Thu 14 Jun 2018

    14 June 2018

    Dear Parents/Carers

We are intending to hold a sleepover for Year 4 at school on Thursday 12 July.

The main purpose for this is to give the children a chance to spend a night away from home with school before PGL in Year 6, but close enough to home to feel confident.

The children will arrive at school on Thursday as usual and do their normal lessons that day. However, they will need to bring an overnight bag, sleeping bag, pillow and sleeping mat with them. They will then stay overnight, the boys will be in the small hall and the girls in the big hall and they will be having an activity day on the school field on Friday 13th. They will go home at normal time at the end of school on Friday.

Overnight, the children will be supervised by Miss Simmons, Miss Featherstone, Mrs Axtell, Mr Kain and Dr Inglis.

We intend to hold a barbecue for dinner on Thursday and toast marshmallows on a campfire. We will have a bacon or egg roll for breakfast and a picnic lunch on Friday.

Our activities will include things such as rounders, rock climbing, inflatables and sticky archery (don’t worry, no real arrows involved!!).

In order to cover costs for food and the rock climbing wall, we are asking for a contribution of £8.50 per child.

If your child requires any regular medicines, please hand them to the class teacher on the morning of Thursday 12 July with a completed medicine administration form which can be collected from the school office.

  • Sports Week

    Thu 14 Jun 2018

    14  June 2018

    Dear Parents and Carers

Sports Week starts on the 25 June. All children must come to school every day in their school PE kit. They also need a named water bottle every day.

Monday - The children need to come to school dressed as a ‘sporting hero’ or they can come in their PE kit. We will not send them home with their PE kit the week before because we need them all in school for Monday afternoon. At 10am we will all be outside taking part in the Fun Run. All parents are invited to watch.

In the afternoon we will be getting on a coach to go to the Sports Centre for a sports festival with other schools. The children must wear their school PE kit for the festival. We will get them changed into this before we go. They will then go home on Monday in their school PE kit.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday - the children must come to school in their school PE kit, they need trainers/ plimsolls and a named water bottle.

Thursday - is Sports Day. The children must come to school in their school PE shorts, trainers or plimsolls and the colour t-shirt for their house. It does not matter if you do not have a t-shirt of just that colour. If you have a t- shirt that is mainly that colour, then that is fine. It can have other patterns and pictures on it. If you don’t have the correct colour, then a white t-shirt with a label or colour drawn or stuck on will also be fine.

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 & 2 sports morning starts at 10am and finishes at 11.45am.

The school gate will be unlocked at about 9.45am. It will take place on the school field. The children stay in a group with children from their house from Nursery, Year 1 & 2. Parents can watch all events and walk round the outside of the activities. We do ask that you do not come over to your child during the event. If all 200 parents came over to have a chat with their child, then you can imagine how hard it would be for staff to safeguard and look after all the children. It can also upset many children.

During sports week the children will be taking part in different sport lessons with their class, going to whole school sport assemblies and having a coaching session with a football coach.

These will take place whatever the weather so please send your child in with suitable clothing e.g. sun hat/cap, sunscreen, school fleece/jumper, coat, waterproof, etc.

We hope to have an exhausting week!

    Miss Elsey

    Foundation Leader/Deputy Head

  • Fun Run

    Mon 04 Jun 2018

    Dear Parents/Carers

    Galley Hill School Fun Run

On the Monday 25th June at 10am for the opening of our sports week, we will be asking all children to take part in this year’s fun run dressed as their favourite sporting hero!!!

We are asking for children to be sponsored in order to raise money for a new all-weather purpose daily mile track. Prizes will be awarded to 1 boy and 1 girl from each year group for the most creative fancy dress.

The run will take place at 10am parents are welcome to come and support their child from 9:50am. The run will take place on the school field and the children will try and complete as many laps as they can in 30 minutes.

Trainers should be worn, name labelled water bottles, sun cream applied and sun hat worn (weather dependent).

The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances.

Its impact can be transformational – improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.

The Daily Mile is a social activity, where in the children run or jog – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends. Children can occasionally walk to catch their breath, if necessary, but should aim to run or jog for the full 15 minutes.

Research has shown that The Daily Mile can even increase attainment in primary school, and parents have reported an increased interest in health and wellbeing from their children after they have started The Daily Mile.

    • It takes place over just 15 minutes, with children averaging a mile each day.

    • Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.

    • Children run in their uniforms so no kit or changing time is needed.

    • It’s social, non-competitive and fun.

    • The children return to class ready to learn.

    • It helps to improve fitness and healthy weight.

    • It encourages children to be aware of their health.

      1. fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.

Thank you all for your support.

    Mrs E Birch

    Headteacher
