Phonics - Friday

In the newsletter below you will see the sounds we have been learning about this week.

Discuss these sounds with your child.  Can they remember the different way of making the sounds? Can they think of any words which contain that sound?  Which spelling would they choose to use for the sound in that word?  Can you spot that sound in your reading book?

Reading

We are very excited to be joining the Super Sonic Phonic Friends family for our phonics learning this year.  This means that the reading books your children may have at home will have the new Super Sonic labels.  The books have been carefully organised to follow the new scheme of learning so that they can take small steps of progress in their reading journey often linked with the learning they are doing in class.  We no longer refer to the 'colour' band of the book instead we have Basics 2 - 5 with groups (e.g. Basics 5 Group 3).

The books they bring home will be to practise the learning from class.  They should not be difficult for your child/ren to read. They should be able to read or 'sound out' majority if not all of the words.  When they are reading with you at home, they are practising their reading skills.  We do not expect you to teach them how to read.  If you feel that your child's books is too tricky, please speak with their class teacher.   You should also receive the parent letter each week to share your child's learning in phonics.  It will show you what they are learning and offer some engaging activities to do with your child at home.
