Spellings:-

This week we are continuing work on our 'common exception words' which the children need more practise with.

Please find your spellings for the week in the PDF document below.

Within the document you will find a daily spelling activity to work on.

Please do this in the back of your A4 Lined book and put the short date in the margin.

English:-

This week, we are going to focus our English learning on reading and answering questions.

We call this reading comprehension.

Being able to answer questions about what we read is really important and it tells us whether we are understanding the words we are reading.

Today's reading comprehension is listed below.

You do not need to print this out if you are not able to. You can read the text on the screen and then answer the questions in your lined A4 book.

Top tips:

- Read the text first, don't jump straight to the questions.

- If you aren't sure of the answer, don't guess. Go back to the text and try and find the answer.

Maths:-

Today, in maths, I decided we would have a bit of fun.

I have uploaded 3 documents for you to choose from.  These are all mysteries that need solving, you have to solve the clues to find out who the culprit was.

You can print and work on the sheet or you could record your answers straight into your maths book.

You do not need to do all 3 mysteries but can if you want to.

Have fun :)

PSHE

Your wellbeing task this week is to complete the picture.  Have fun.

Computing:-

This week for our Computing learning, we are going to remind ourselves about ways to stay safe online.

Now that we are doing lots of our learning on the computer at home, it's important we remember how to keep ourselves safe.

Follow this link to the BBC Bitesize website and have a go completing the activities about 'How can you use the web safely?'

2) Have them write their message (answering the questions below) and then have them reread it to check it makes sense and has no mistakes.

3) Show them how to attach a photo if there is one they would like to send.

4) At the end, have them check everything in their email one last time and discuss that by doing this we are keeping ourselves safe online. You might like to use this time to check with them that they know what information they shouldn't share online.

Answer these questions in the email:

- What did you do to keep busy while it was raining this week?

- What was the best bit of your week and why?

On Thursday 5th March we will be celebrating World Book Day!

Our theme this year is 'Share A Story'.

We are going to spend the day sharing plenty of stories with each other and we would love the children to bring in a variety of books.

We would be thrilled if your child could bring in:

  • A fiction book they like.
  • A non-fiction book they like.
  • A cushion or something comfy they would like to sit on.

Many thanks,

Team Year 2

In English next week, each child will be writing a non-fiction report about an animal of their choice.

If you have any time over the weekend, discuss which animal your child might like to focus on and see if you can do some research together.

They can bring in any research they have done (could be a print out from a website or just some notes that they wrote from your research together) but no worries if this is not possible, we are going to have some time to do research together as a class.

D.T. Day in diamond. We had a wonderful day working in groups to build castles and then to decorate them. Didn't we do well.

On Monday 9th December Year 2 visited Windsor Castle.  We had an amazing time, learnt lots of interesting facts about Queen Elizabeth II in our workshop and saw some amazing rooms within the castle.  We were also lucky enough to visit while the Queen was at home so we got to see the Royal Standard (a red and yellow flag) flying when we arrived.  We also saw the flag going down and being replaced by the Union Jack when she left to head back to Buckingham Palace later in the day.  Here are some pictures from our wonderful day out.

PE

Now that the weather is turning colder and some of our PE sessions are outside please ensure your child has an outdoor PE kit as per the school policy (joggers, sweatshirt, hat and gloves and trainers).  This should be in school every day please as sometimes our timetable does change.  If you're child has outgrown any joggers and sweatshirts we would really appreciate them as spare PE kit.  Thank you.
